A Walk From The Book

Ruyton-XI-Towns
A small town more the size if a village, north-west of Shrewsbury
If you are not up on your Roman Numerals its
Ruyton-11-Towns

The Walk is around 2 miles
Starting at the pub

The Admiral Benbow

The book tells us to cross the road

The first thing we come to is Steps, note Tess is not with me on this photo, because mom thought the one with the two of us was more of an outtake! but I'm going to show you anyway.

Its looks ok, but see how Tess looks like she is balancing the lamp post on her nose lol!! now look back at my photo and the lamp post has gone! We own up and I have said this before, we are always on are leads.

Ok lets get on with the walk.

First through the church yard that has the remains of a Norman castle built in 1155

Time to move on

It was a cold night and the frost was still on the ground

This poor goose had a frozen breakfast

Out of the church yard and a walk down the road, always doing what the signs say

"George why do you have to do as the signs say?"
"Because we'd all be in a pickle if we didn't!"

That round building is the old toll house, you would have had to pay money to get across the bridge years ago.

"George, that sign says there is a bull in this field!! is it safe"
"Well it dosen't say you can't walk across it, I'll let you and dad check it out, mom and me will be right behind you."

Ok so we didn't stop right behind them, dad went off looking for the bridge that was on the map, while mom thought why walk all that way to walk all the way back if the bridge is no longer there.
What happened mom was busy telling me she can't see a bridge and not looking where she was going and we both ended up in deep mud!! she was laughing at me not thinking that she was sinking in it.

Dad didn't find the bridge so we had to walk all the way back to pick up the walk on the other side.

We didn't see a bull. so luckly we didn't end up in a pickle

Back across the cattle grid

Passing the black and white house.

Back on the right track, on the other side of the stream
we saw loads of intresting things
so I'll shut up and show you the photos

Not Tess's best shot, but its the first time she got her head down a rabbit hole.

Look at the shadow on the left is it a horse? no its mom taking the photo!

The four of us together

Back to where we started hour and a half later.

The fire place inside The Admiral Benbow.
Note the lovely real fire and us two missing!

We were dumped in the car!!! they didn't even ask the landlady if we could go in
"The Cheek of it"
"They" as in mom and dad thought we where just to muddy. Do we look muddy?

"Hey mom and dad check out your boots and see who has the most mud on them. Oh and there was a bridge dad just didn't go far enough, we saw it when we were walking on the other side

Have a Good Week
See Yea George xxx

I love all the harness brass on the fireplace inside the pub. I have one with a Cardigan Corgi and, yes, it was made in England!

Ruins from 1155 ?? WOW. What a lovely church.
I noticed that there were a lot of Hedge Rows.. instead of Fences. Is that common in the area? They are very well maintained.
AND STEPS.. there were STEPS

This was a wonderful and exciting walk. THANK YOU for taking us with you... even though WE didn't get to go INSIDE to sit by the fire. I'll bet that would have felt wonderful after seeing that FROST and the Frozen Duck food.

Well, good thing that bull wasn't there....or maybe Mom could Photoshop him out if he showed up. Tess, you do look cute balancing that pole. BOL

Looks like a very nice walk, especially the muddy pawt. Don't you love how mud feels between your toes?

:o)

Very fun walk, George. And we loved the shadow shots. Our Mom looks very tall in her shadow too, well, wait a minute, she IS very tall.

Beware of those llamas - we hear they can be nasty spitters.

Thanks for the lovely tour.

Thanks for taking us on that great walk. I could almost imagine myself there! Tess is so lucky to have you give her important life instructions. And I think the two of you should protest the fact that you didn't get to go into the pub! ;-)

Another great walk! SHE loves how they start and end at a pub.

Your mum's shadow looks like a welsh terrier. We thought it was your shadow at first.

Lots of great animals to see. did you bark at them?

Another great walk George and Tess. And your Mum has such a good eye for a photo.
Oh, but I must ask. As you know I understand all sorts of complicated scientific matters very clearly. But can someone please explain to me the concept of 'too muddy to go into the pub'? It doesn't make any sense to me at all....

Seeing a donkey is much better than seeing a bull. Funny how there are so many English novels where someone encounters a bull in a field and the bull is never a kindly one!

Hi George and Tess!! Chester (the distinguished Airedale of my family) and I would love to be able to leave behind the 17-degree Missouri, USA mornings that we've been "enjoying" and join you on one of your jaunts. This one looks particularly pretty and interesting. Well, we shall just have to live vicariously through your lovely posts, I suppose. Enjoy the next one a little extra just for us!

What a lovely walk but we have two questions(well really three) Did she get anything in the rabbit hole?(you go girl) and Arch would like to learn how to balance the light pole on his nose, and WHAT IS TOO MUDDY?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? love a+a

Dear George and Tess, Splendid walking tour. I so wish Anita and I could join you two (and mum and dad) one day. No, I don't think you were too muddy to go in the pub, but Tess you need to be more careful about flashing your bum even if you've cornered a rabbit.
Cheers,
Ruben

George!:D Um, I'm thinkin if a walk starts at the pub then the book should be edited to GO INTO the pub BEFORE you cross the road ;)

I was relieved when you said the goose just had a frozen breakfast. At first glance I thought the goose was frozen to the ground BOL! :)

Wonderin if the round toll house was built that way so no matter how you tried to cross they'd always see you and take your green papers? ;)

Um Mom was lookin like this :O
when she saw y'all go into to the bull field. Good thing none of you were wearin read she says :)

Was that one of those nasty garden gnomes hiding up in the tree?!!! :O George and Tess pawlease tell me you did not just leave it there to wreak havoc on us all!

What a cool fireplace to sit and drink some suds by! :D

Great walkie George, Tess and peeps :D

Waggin at ya,
Roo

PeeS: This break thingy is not so bad. I don't get to see my furiends as often butt get to spend more time with them when I do :D Glad to hear your Mom's takin care of her mentals too :)

Great Post.
I'd complain a bit harder George & Tess about being left in the car next time. I'd forgive them though because your Mum has given us a great walk to savour and I'm always amazed at her ability to capture the moment. Impressive insight into your editing world with the lamp post Jan.
Lastly this is a great advert for the variety of what one can see on a routine country walk & I can see elements here of what I try to do sometimes as well. However I'll need to refine my horse shadow pose if I need to improve my posts !! haha
