Its over to Mom

"Thanks George"

A year ago today I started Georges' blog

He's changed alot in that time! true to his breed characteristics and we love him all the more for it.
I started the blog for me to have a diary of him growing up, but it has become more than that.
Along the way I have picked up many friends and enjoy the banter in the comments.

Its taken me a while to figure out what I should put in this post
So I'll tell you why we picked a Welsh Terrier.

I grew up with a Lakeland terrier called Sooty, he was an independent little dog. I remember one time when he stopped my cousin  going back down stairs after visiting the bathroom!

Also the time when he got out, we spend hours looking for him, and the time when mom and dad said he was ill and wouldn't be coming back from the vets, but he did and lived for some time after that.

Me and Sooty on The Clee Hill, which is where George was born!

The next dog to come into our lives was Tigger, we were married and I was working in a small pottery making shirehorse's!!! the boss had two dogs that she always brought to work with her an English Setter and  American  cockier spaniel. The front roller stutter door was open and this dog just walked in and curled up in one of the dog beds, no collar.

We made a phone call to the police but no one had reported her missing, There was no way  the boss could take her home, so I said I would, we put an advert in the local paper again no one came forward.

We named her Tigger because of her marking, we didn't know her age but she lived to the age of 11years with us.

Our next dog was Jack we got him from the dogs home, he was
10 months old.
Jack stuck to me like glue, he would follow me all over the place.

In the later years of his life he was going deaf and blind, I used a lot of signing with my hands which worked wonders, but we had that bond, like a type of telepathy, no need to say a word

I was giving him a bath and found a lump under his chin, I thought it was to do with his teeth, it turned out to be the cancer lymphoma the vet gave him a month to live, that was the November of 2009, he made it passed Christmas but I had to let him go on 29th Dec. aged 15. It was not a good Christmas that year

Then came George, I was that close to Jack that I knew I could not be without a dog as part of our family.
This time it would be different, we decided we would have a puppy!!!
With me growing up with a Lakeland and we both love Airedales we narrowed it down to a Welsh Terrier, just because of the size!!
Its not a popular breed, most folks think he is an Airedale anyway!

On 23rd January 2010 we picked up George, a little bundle of fur that melted our hearts, he's a big ball of fur now, but still melts my heart, even though he's a daddy's boy.

Its also a good time to look at the blog, I did think I would just do a year of Saturday Steps, the first one was on the 15th May!! but on reflection I will keep this going until I run out of steps!!! as every walk we go on has some steps along the way.
So I will be doing what I have done over the last couple of weeks, a Saturday Steps including a post.
I could easly do a post everyday with the things that George gets up to! but, as you all know, blogging can take over and I don't want to get to the point when I find it a chore, stop enjoying it and stop.
When I first started I had no idea at the end of the first year I would be up to 195 followers and George's 1st Birthday when 55 of you sent in photos of you on steps, amazing.

Plus Flat Georges 2011 World Tour, a big Thank You to everyone that has done a blog post and sent in photos.
I class that blog as yours, you are the ones taking him out and about writing the post and taking photos,
 I'm just hosting it.

I love seeing what you are up to, I'm just sorry I can't comment on all your blog posts but time does not allow.  I better wrap it up now, George is tapping his paws, thanks for making this an enjoyable year of blogging.

See Yea Jan xxx

Well I can't add to that so till next time see yea George xxx

Congratulations on your first blogiversary! It was nice getting to know you. When I first started blogging, all I wanted was to have a diary of Santa our first dog, just like you. For me, I was not a dog person. I have always been terrified of dogs and I don't know much about them. Santa changed all that and I've learned a lot from other dog blogs. Now I have four of them myself!

Congratulations on your milestone! (How would it have been to end it? There would've been a deafening silence in bloggerland, we think)

Thanks for all the smiles and the beautiful scenery - including that of George himself - the most adorable bearded mess of a comedian dog we have ever gotten to know. :)

Jan, we have started feeling like blogging is a chore too and it shouldn't feel that way. We are perhaps thinking of giving it a break, or just blogging less.

I really loved this post. You've had so many different dogs, but each have a special place in your heart.

What a wonderful blogging year you've had. We always look forward to be posts. You wouldn't believe how many folk ask if Bertie is an Airedale, despite him being totally the wrong colour and size! Anyway, George is a most beautiful dog and your photos of your trips out and about in Shropshire and beyond are great to look at.
Happy anniversary!

Happy one year of blogging!! We hit our one year mark back in January. My only regret is that I wish I had started the blog when I first got Riley when she was 7 weeks old (May 2009). It must be cool for you to have chronicled George's puppyhood! I'll have to check out some of your older posts...I haven't followed you for that long I don't think.

You know what? You are a very very special family to us, and we feel like we know you even better now that we've met the pups who came before George. Sometimes it feels like a very small world. It always feels like a remarkable one. And we are VERY GLAD you are a part of it.

Happy blogaversary. It's been a fabulous year. And we are REALLY pleased to know that you are figuring out a way to keep it going. Now, if Moma could only figure out as much. (It's hard.)

So. We'll be thinking of you with every new set of steps we see ... and we'll be looking forward to more posts.

Dog people are the best people in the world. They (dogs) do special things to us and they make us better!!! Loved your stories of your dogs!! I am afraid that I will lose Bambi with her lumps here and there. That is partly why I cook all her food for her. She never gets anything made for a dog b/c I am so afraid of cancer. I lost Bruce to cancer way to early!!
Thank you Jan for this very special post and thanks for coming and telling me to get here to read it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
