Our Third Walk from The Book

OK folks I think I better warn you this is a long post!!
in fact at the end you might need to go for a walk to stretch your legs!

This time we are at

Come on we are waiting

Ye Olde Robin Hood at Jackfield
Just down the road from the Ironbridge.
It was built in the 17th century.

The walk starts at the right hand side of the pub

Up some steps

I'll tell you more about this bridge when we get to it.

We call this a kissing gate, other parts of the country probably call it something else
"Did I hear someone say some thing?"
Must be hearing things
"Dad stop pulling me"

More steps to go up can you see them behind us

Time for a beather before going down the other side

Out onto the main road.

This was a very steep road down hill, with no footpath, dad made sure I was safe from the cars.

I can smell a pub!! I didn't say that dad did!

Its the river! looks high to me, wonder if the pubs flooded?

That better green grass to run on

We are very close to The Coalport China Museum,
there's the chimney in the top left corner, we haven't got time today for a visit,
but the next two photos were taken a while ago by mom.

China was made here from 1796-1926, when it moved to bigger china manufactures in Staffordshire

Over the footbridge, I smell beer!!

Oh I didn't say, this is over the River Seven.

About time a pub.
Its The Boat Inn

Just look at the door, all of the white lines have dates that the river went up to, if you click on the photo you will see the dates better.

We got this photo from google just to show you

Heck I wouldn't want to be here when its that high!!

Hey mom can you get Stanzie out please, I'd like her to try some Guinness froth.

Stanzie don't get sitting over there come and join us.

That's my girl, shame it can't be the real you, oh well

This is Guinness Stanzie, I'm sure you'll get the taste for it.

Mmmmmmm

Ok Stanzie, back in moms bag, don't want you getting all muddy, you can come out at the next pub.

That put a spring in my step!
This is the side of Maws Craft Centre.

The front of it, and back on to the road.

Mmmm, that Guinness looks like it put a spring in dads step to!!

"What you say dad, OK" he said we are to tell you that this bit of road has wooden slats, don't know why?
We could do with a book that tells us!

The building on the left is Jackfield Tile Museum

Tiles were produced here by Craven and Dunnall from 1874 to the second world war.

Just cross the road is St Marys Church. This is the back view.

Its at this point I would like to tell you about two bloggers I've been following
The first is J_on_tour he left a comment on my blog a while back, I paid him a visit and have been following since. He's a Photographer and trip advisor, great posts with photos to match, about the towns villages etc around the UK.

Its there on his side bar I picked up Cranberry Morning
Judy is from Wisconsin USA, and has been blogging about her visit to the UK.
I love to hear what visitors think of our country.
Please go and see her post and photos of the church, she also visited the pub that's next on our walk.
No we didn't have fish chips and mushy peas, Yuk don't do mushy peas!

On we go, the pub is just in front of us, this is a railway line that is no more.
The Width of the gates is 38 feet, which for some reason considered unique in the UK.

Hang on a minute, dads just showing me that he went down the river on a home made raft!
It was lots of years ago!

The Black Swan, also none as The Dirty Duck!
Built in 1750 so is older than the Ironbridge.

The Sun was shining and we haven't see much of it this year, so we sat outside on the benches,
most pubs in this area have benches outside.
As you can see Stanzie's at the Guinness, she's got the taste for it. That's my girl
Right Stanzie back in moms bag.

Look what we come across, smells nice to, you can hire it out for weddings its got a ribbon on it,

"Stanzie I said, hire it out for weekends and its got written on it!!"

Good job she was zipped in moms bag and didn't see it!!
we don't have to rush into anything just yet

Written on it Bertie!  good grief Bertie you have a car named after you.
Can you drive, you could be my chauffeur for the wedding!!

Stanzie I said weekend!
Heck I better watch what I say!

Grass lovely, nearly back to the start, there's the bridge and pub.

This bridge is called The "New" Bridge, well it looks pretty new to me, it replaced the old reinforced concrete bridge
Mom found this photo on the BBC web site of the old bridge
You can see the pub on the left of the photo.
Mom remembers the old Midland Red Buses, they are greenie ones now.

Back at the pub.

The view from the pub, mom loves taking photos of this bridge for some reason

Come on Stanzie you can come out, what's it to be, a Guinness and a porkie pie?

No porkie pie!! what this, home made warm pork and apple roll, that will do me.

Gee Stanzie your knocking them back quick!!
"What did you say, you want to see my local pub!
I hope you have some money in that purse"

As you can see we are at The Station pub, back home.

While I'm warming my bum by the fire

Stanzie spots a beer she'd like to try.

Reminds her of home.

I'd like to go home,
 its been a busy day.

We just have to stop at a shop for mom, she has a sweet tooth, you see!

Can we please go home, I'm bushed.
You want to know what she bought TreacleToffee's!! stick to your gums they do.

I'd just like to say any one out there that has got to the end of this post, thanks for sticking with it.
I promise the next walk report will be shorter!!

Don't forget to pop by
 and

Tell um George sent yea : )
Also a link to

Its a good web site if you are thinks of giving Shropshire a visit

See Yea George xxx

GEORGIE!!! This was indeed a lovely walk. I am not tired at all dearest ones, but your tour only gives us the BUG to go out and find some stairs! We went out yesterday to celebrate our wedding anniversary and we went to a lovely town called STILLWATER. It is on the river's edge, the St. Croix river, diving Minnesota from WISCONSIN!!! A lovely town filled with antique shops and good eats AND THREE LONG STAIR WAYS!!! And it is predicted that the St. Croix river is going to over flow. It did last year! My goodness, you two give us so much joy, Jan and GEORGE! Stanzie is a gorgeous gal George..hang on tight to her in mum's bag...she is a keeper, a gal who loves a good pint! She can keep up with you, I am sure! Oh how I wait every day by the post....no news yet. I look forward to your sweet gift.....Anita and BALZAC

George I have some questions... Why do you call that a Kissing Gate??? Why do so many of the steps you show us.. have that "chicken Wire" stuffs on them? That is what we call that type of wire here. That China Museum... I am very much interested in THAT. I see the round Kiln there beside it. HERE we call them Bee Hive Kilns.. I only know of ONE that still stands today. It is about
2 1/2 hours away from my house. PLEASE take us to the museum some time. I live in an area that was FAMOUS fur all types of ceramic products. In fact... there is even a small museum very close to my house.
THIS was just a Thrilling post. THANK YOU! I loved seeing you with Stanzie. She is soooo pretty.

Great walk and a truly splendid car, even if I say so myself! Gail (who comes from Nottingham) wants to know what the Robin Hood Inn is doing in Shropshire. I am more interested in finding out where I can get one of those truly scrumptious looking pork and apple rolls...

Thank you fur answering my questions. You are the best. I see Bertie has discovered HIS car.

We have some gates that are sort of like your Kissing Gate.. we call them Cow Gates beclaws cows can't get through them... butt peeps and dawgs can.

When Flat Geo. goes to the China museum could he please ask if you call the kiln.. a Bee Hive Kiln... like we did Here.. when they used to be used? I have this horrid curiousity about all kinds of stuffs you know. I love to learn new stuffs. Sorry to have been a pain under your tail... with all the questions.
I am still drooling over the pork and apple thingy.. by the way.

George OMC&D,
What a fantastic post. I hear Mom tell Dad she wants to come visit your home city. She said it is just beautiful there. Very nice of you to invite Stanzi...so what did you two do at the KISSING GATE? MOL
Oh and George we loved the picture of you flying through the air. You are very agile for a puppy are you sure you don't have some feline genes? MOL
PS Mom says it is about time to take Flat Georg on another excursion. She started taking him on a walk around our neighborhood last weekend...then she sprained her ankle but not outside she did it inside. It is almost well.

George. And Family.

Since we can't be there to walk with you, we're sure glad you share it with us with your blogs and words. We were disappointed when this walk was over ... we all like long walks, and we'll be trying to get Moma to take us out one of our own.

But first, she says, she's got some new blogs to go visit. Thanks to you. (We're patient ... it's good. Real good. Thanks for the recommendations!)

We loved that walk. It's so much fun to see everything.

That Black Swan Pub's older than Australia! Wonder where they found black swans......

We think the new bridge should be called the Batman Bridge.

Thanks for taking us along....

Beautiful pictures and what an amazing walk!

Looks like another good walk George, with loads of saturday steps material around here and not your normal pie either?. I'm sure you had a good lie down after that varied and long walk.
Thanks Jan for the mention, I appreciate that. The more I look at these pictures, the more I realise what a difficult job you have with the camera. You either need to be very quick, take loads of photos or ... do both. Very varied and interesting post that tells a little more of near where you live with some good pictures of the museum and bridge too. It's kissing gates here in the north as well.

Wow! That walk could have you set for step pictures for more than a month! That will keep you in tip top shape. No wonder you and Stanzie had to stop often for refreshments! That bridge is very cool - Mom really likes the design. Oh, yeah, she would have done the whole walk for a stop in that sweet shop, too! BTW, the china shop reminds us - didn't you say once that your dad made pottery? Have you posted pics of that yet? Or are we daft? Having a hard time keeping up with blogville :) Awesome walk, though, and we particularly loved your ACTION pic!

About the garden pond: Our whole backyard is shaded, but I'd rather have that than sitting out in the sunshine. Today it was 97 degrees F. (and people think it's cold here all the time, but that's probably because I whine about the cold all February and March.)

Hi to George. :-)
